By breathing deeply into our belly, we encourage fuller, more efficient breaths that allow for a greater exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide than shallow chest breathing.
This simple yet powerful practice supports our nervous system and helps to ease feelings of stress, anxiety, panic, and overwhelm, bringing a sense of calm and grounding to the mind and body.

Bhastrika Pranayama
In this breath tutorial, you will learn the foundations of Bhastrika Pranayama, a powerful yogic breathing technique designed to build heat, increase vitality, and awaken mental clarity. Often called the “Bellows Breath,” Bhastrika uses strong, rhythmic inhales and exhales to stoke inner fire, clear stagnant energy, and strengthen the respiratory system.

In Golden Thread Pranayama, we use the visual of a "golden thread" flowing through the breath, fostering a sense of peace, calm and connection. This is a suitable practice to do during pregnancy or the early stages of labour.

In this practice, we connect to Prakasha, the universal light that awakens our own inner radiance and illumination. In Sanskrit, Prakasha means "light", symbolizing the expression of divine truth and qualities within us. Kali Breathwork, Kriya & Ritual Practice
The Goddess Kali, often depicted with a garland of skulls and a sword, embodies the primal energy of destruction and creation. She invites us to see beyond her external symbolism and recognise her as a catalyst for inner awakening and change. In Kali's dance of destruction, she invites us to shed the layers of ego and illusion, allowing the authentic self to emerge. In this practice we will move through powerful kriya, mantra and breathwork to confront our own shadows within, and release that which no longer serves our highest good.

Kapalabhati, meaning “skull shining breath” in Sanskrit, is a powerful and energizing pranayama technique widely used in yoga. Known as the “breath of fire,” this practice sharpens focus and concentration, clears mental fog, boosts energy and oxygen flow, and supports digestive health.
Through rapid, forceful exhales driven from the navel center, Kapalabhati builds intense heat and pranic energy that rises through the body’s energetic centers, awakening vitality and inner strength.
Please note: This practice is not recommended during pregnancy, early postpartum, or following any abdominal surgeries.

Moorchitta Pranayama
Moorchitta Pranayama is a subtle, yet powerful breath technique to cultivate a sense of lightness and stillness in the body and mind. Through this practice we cleanse and awaken at Anja Chakra (the third eye), Vishudda Chakra (the throat) and Anahata (the heart). This breathing technique invokes a deep sense of peace, presence and ease in the mind, and is a great practice to do prior to meditation.

Nadi Shodhana
Nadi Shodhana, also known as "alternate nostril breathing", is a commonly used breath technique in yoga. The term "Nadi" refers to the subtle energy channels in the body, "Ida" on the left (the feminine) and "Pingala" on the right (the masculine). "Shodhana" means cleansing or purification, so in this practice we are cleansing the energetic channels, balancing the two hemispheres of the brain and balancing our feminine and masculine energies. This breathing technique also helps to promote mental clarity and focus, reduce stress and enhance relaxation.

Samavritti Pranayama, also known as "Equal Part Breathing" or "Square Breathing," is a foundational yogic breath technique that cultivates inner balance, calmness, and mental clarity.
This practice involves inhaling, holding the breath, exhaling, and holding again - each for equal lengths of time, creating a steady, rhythmic flow that soothes the nervous system and anchors awareness in the present moment.
Samavritti helps to quiet the mind, reduce anxiety, and bring both the body and emotions into a state of equilibrium. It’s especially supportive during times of stress, restlessness, or when you need to reset your energy and focus.

Seasons of the Breath
Welcome to this gentle pranayama practice to connect to the seasons of your breath. Much like nature, our own breath cycle has four distinct phases. In this practice we will explore the energetic qualities of each part of the breath cycle (the inhale, inhale retention, exhale, and exhale retention) and how they mimic the seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Sheetali Pranayama
Sheetali Pranayama, commonly referred to as the “Cooling Breath,” is a traditional yogic breathing technique known for its soothing, calming, and cooling effects on both the body and mind.
This practice involves inhaling through a rolled tongue (or an alternative method if you’re unable to roll the tongue), allowing cool air to enter the body, followed by a gentle exhale through the nose. The result is an immediate sense of relief, ease, and inner quiet.
Sheetali is especially beneficial during hot weather, or in moments of anger, irritability, emotional overwhelm, or stress. It helps to lower internal heat, regulate the nervous system, and bring a sense of spaciousness and serenity to the mind.

Ujiyi Pranayama
Ujjayi Pranayama, often called the “Ocean Breath” due to its soft, wave-like sound, is one of the foundational breathing techniques in yoga. Widely used across many styles and traditions, this breath creates a steady, audible rhythm that supports both focus and flow.
The gentle constriction at the back of the throat produces the soothing sound of ocean waves, helping to anchor the mind and regulate the nervous system. Ujjayi has a profoundly balancing and calming effect on the body, encouraging a sense of steadiness and presence throughout your practice or daily life.

Viloma Pranayama
Viloma Pranayama, often referred to as the “Three-Part Breath”, is a subtle yet powerful yogic breathing technique that involves intentionally pausing the breath at specific intervals - typically in the belly, rib cage, and upper chest. These pauses create a segmented flow of breath that helps to deepen awareness, expand lung capacity, and cultivate a sense of control and calm.
The word “Viloma” comes from Sanskrit: “vi” meaning “against” or “reverse”, and “loma” meaning “hair” or “grain.” Together, Viloma translates to “against the grain,” symbolizing the breath’s deliberate interruption - contrary to the smooth, continuous rhythm of natural breathing.
This pranayama is particularly effective for calming the mind, enhancing breath awareness, and preparing the body for meditation. By consciously breaking the breath into parts, we learn to explore and inhabit the full capacity of the lungs, as well as observe how the breath moves through different areas of the body.
⚠️ Not recommended during pregnancy or for those with high blood pressure.

Virata - Shakti Shake
Virata (sometimes referred to as a shaking meditation) is a somatic, body-centered practice designed to release stored tension, stress, emotion and trauma from the nervous system. The purpose is to get out of your head and into your body, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to discharge accumulated tension and emotion, similar to how animals shake after a threatening event. This is a shake from the inside, out! It has nothing to do with performing or dancing.
